Penn Supreme Court Upholds Fathers’ Rights

The Pennsylvania Supreme Court has overturned a previous ruling by county and superior courts that Stanley Shepp could not teach his daughter his unusual religious beliefs. Mark Scoloforo quoted the decision:

“Where, as in the instant matter, there is no finding that discussing such matters constitutes a grave threat of harm to the child, there is insufficient basis for the court to infringe on a parent’s constitutionally protected right to speak to a child about religion as he or she sees fit,” Justice Sandra Schultz Newman wrote.

Way to go Mrs. Newman! And congratulations Stanley!

I don’t much care what Mr. Shepp wants to teach his daughter. He wasn’t physically hurting her; he wasn’t molesting her; he was just trying to do what God requires every father to do: teach his children right and wrong according to his best understanding. Nobody, not even the child’s mother, has a right to prevent him from doing that.

Mr. Shepp kept fighting despite early rulings against him, and we all owe him our gratitude for his perseverence. His win has been a win for all parents. [...]
