Slaves are not the only ones who must ask for permission to marry. So must free daughters in a biblically sound society. Free sons should also ask for permission, but they are not required to so far as I know.</description>

But the broader point is the important one - that marriage should not be a function of the civil government.
The only question is which will completely collapse first: marriage or the federal government?</description>
