Licensed Drug Pushers

Friday, February 8th, 2008

We imprison people who push politically incorrect drugs, even the ones that help extend the lives of very sick people. We reward people who push politically correct drugs, even the ones that destroy the lives of otherwise healthy people. Soma, hydrocodone, xanax, alprazolam, oxycodone, vicodin, gabitril, methocarbamol, topamax, ambien…You name it, and your doctor will probably prescribe it with no questions asked. Say you need more, and he’ll probably give it to you. Tell him you’re addicted, and he’ll give you even more, or else he’ll prescribe some other addictive chemical so maybe you won’t mind the first one so much. Maybe he’ll refer you to someone else. Maybe he’ll just kick you out of his office so he doesn’t get in trouble with the alphabet soup. When your husband or wife or child expresses concern about your steady diet of pretty colored pills and gel caps, your doctor will nod knowingly, promise to talk about weaning you off of something, and then prescribe something new. And all the old stuff too.

I’m sure there are a lot of doctors out there who really care about their patients. However, in my experience, most of them care more about their bottom line than about your health. They’ll prescribe all the Ambien you want, because it will keep you coming back and your insurance company paying the bills. They almost certainly won’t tell you about the voices, the hallucinations, the terrible nightmares, the blackouts, and the miserable lives of the people who try to love you.

The miracles of modern medicine. Ain’t it grand?

This Is AMC?

Friday, February 8th, 2008

I thought that stood for American Movie Classics, but Breaking Bad is neither a movie nor a classic. It is, however, one of the most twisted, bizarre television series I’ve ever seen. It ranks right up there with Dexter (good) and Weeds (bad).

Super Tuesday Aftermath

Wednesday, February 6th, 2008

Tornadoes rip through South, killing 48

The storms swept across Kentucky, Tennessee, Mississippi and Arkansas as Super Tuesday primaries were ending, ripping the roof from a shopping mall, blowing apart warehouses and crumpling a campus’ dormitory buildings as students huddled inside.

I’m sure you can guess what I was thinking as I read this.

Colorado GOP Precinct Caucus

Tuesday, February 5th, 2008

I just returned from the Republican precinct caucus. There were fifteen voters in attendance, seven more than the highest total in twenty some years. The tally was nothing short of shocking:

  • Mitt Romney – 6
  • John McCain – 4
  • Mike Huckabee – 4
  • Ron Paul – 1

It was so shocking, I think I only yawned once! One of the old timers pointed at the man in the next row up and said, “I betcha that youngun up there–he’s the one that put down Paul.” Nope. That was me, the not-quite-as-youngun.

T’ruma 5768 – A Model of a Model of a Model

Tuesday, February 5th, 2008

This week I’m including more than a single excerpt from the book. The first section (Exodus 25:1-40) introduces the following sections which give more detailed comments on the same passage. I have only included three of the those here, but there will be many more in the final product.

Exodus 25:1-40

And they shall make an ark… On one level the Ark of the Covenant is the symbol of the Father in the Tabernacle and the Temple, while the Menorah represents the Holy Spirit, and the Showbread Table represents the Son. (On another level, the entire Tabernacle is a model for every individual.) Likewise, the Heavenly Father is an example for earthly fathers, the Holy Spirit is an example for earthly mothers,  and the Son is an example for earthly children, especially the firstborn son of his father. The details of all three articles are significant for every single person, as we occupy a spectrum of traits and roles, and we can never say that one person or one gender can never be allowed to fill the role of another. But the characteristics of the Heavenly Father as revealed in the Ark more precisely apply to fathers than to anyone else, and likewise the characteristics of the Heavenly Son as revealed in the Showbread Table apply to firstborn sons. The Menorah is specifically a pattern for women, but also for all types of deacons, servants, and helpers. The instructions contained in Exodus 25 are repeated in minute detail in Exodus 37, demonstrating the great weight which God assigns to these things.

I am certain that all of the precise measurements have important meanings, both spiritual and mundane (Ezekiel 43:10-11), but I will not pretend to know what all of those meanings are. The best that I can do is to prayerfully consider these instructions and the teaching I have received and ask God for understanding. What mistakes I make are purely my own. I do not claim this to be prophecy or infallible revelation from God. The same is true for the instructions concerning the Showbread Table and the Menorah.

Exodus 25:9

…after the pattern of the tabernacle… The stuff of the wilderness tabernacle was not made according to a design only written on paper or fashioned into a small scale model. It was patterned after the real Tabernacle in Heaven in which Yeshua serves as our divine High Priest. That Tabernacle is a shadow of something yet higher: God himself. It is also an image after which we are to pattern ourselves, both as individuals and as families.

Exodus 25:10

…shittim wood… According to Scofield, wood represents humanity,  and John Gill wrote that acacia (translation of shittim) wood is decay resistant.  According to Easton’s Bible Dictionary, it is also a gnarled, thorny tree like a hawthorne  from which it would be very difficult to obtain a significant amount or length of lumber. Our flesh is often twisted and gnarled, making it very difficult for us to work toward creative purposes. A father should, as far as possible, avoid the things that corrupt the flesh: drunkenness, licentiousness, excessive leisure, fear, et cetera. The raw material out of which he is made must be cultivated and trained in order to produce lengths of lumber sufficient to make anything of real substance and size.
(See Exodus 25:13 and 15:23.)

…two cubits and a half…a cubit and a half…a cubit and a half… I know that the dimensions of the Ark and the other articles of the Tabernacle are recorded for our benefit, but at present I can only make wild guesses as to what we are to learn from them. I offer this small bit of speculation only as one possibility and not as anything certain. The volume of the Ark, at least as measured by these external dimensions, is five and five-eighth cubic cubits. Five could represent life as creatures “that hath life” were first created on the fifth day or it could represent the five books of the Torah. Eight represents new beginnings or rebirth. The Ark was the heart of the Tabernacle. Within it were the stone tablets, while the staff, and a jar of manna were placed before it. When we have God’s Law (the tablets) written in our hearts, when we have made him our supreme authority (the staff), and when we have put our faith completely in him (the manna), then we will have life both in this world (five cubits) and eventual resurrection into eternal life (five-eighths cubit).
(See 1 Kings 8:9 and Hebrews 9:4.)

Exodus 25:11

…overlay it with pure gold, within and without… Gold represents purity and righteousness. A father must exemplify righteousness in his family, not just in his actions (“without”) but in his heart and mind (“within”) as well.
(See Exodus 25:13 and 25:24.)

…a crown of gold round about. A father is to rule his house with righteousness, according to the laws of God, and not of man, or else this crown would be of wood instead of gold. However, this is not exactly the same word usually used for a royal crown, but it is the root of that word. Zer is used here, whereas nezer is the usual word for a royal crown.
(See Exodus 25:24 and 25:25.)

Amazed, part 2

Monday, February 4th, 2008

I watched The Game from Woody’s Wood Fired Pizza. It was fun, but I wish I’d thought to record it, so I could watch it again.

I think that’s the first time I have ever said I wanted to watch a football game twice.

Amazed

Friday, February 1st, 2008

I continue to be amazed by Ron Paul and his supporters. His campaign has seemed hopeless from the very beginning, yet his supporters keep on going. I expected the November 5th money bomb to raise one, maybe two million dollars, but it raised more than four. I expected another two or three million on December 16th, but they gave more than six million! After the early primary defeats, things looked pretty grim, with only a few hundred thousand(!) coming in in the first few weeks of 2008. When they started talking about money bombs in honor of MLK Day on January 21st and Dr. and Mrs. Paul’s anniversary on February 1st, I thought, no way can they do it again. The momentum is gone and surely everyone can see that it’s money down the drain. They’ll get a couple of hundred thousand, tops. But no, they keep on giving. They gave almost two million on the 21st, and today’s contributions are about to pass one million, bringing the year-to-date total to five million dollars. Individually, these efforts were not nearly as spactacular as those of November 5 and December 16, but they’re still very impressive.

I hear Ron Paul ads on the radio. I see Ron Paul signs popping up everywhere. I hear people talking about him. I still don’t think he’ll win. I’m pessimistic for a few reasons:

  1. Americans are lazy. Paul preaches responsibility and hard work, but Americans don’t want that. They want to be coddled and cared for. They want free healthcare, housing, and everything else they can get their hands on.
  2. Americans are cowards. They want guarantees and reassurances. They don’t want to hear the truth, because the truth is frightening. They love their chains and their blindfolds.
  3. Democracy is designed for failure. The popular vote doesn’t promote freedom. It is primarily a tool to rule a people while making them think they rule themselves. “None are more hopelessly enslaved than those who falsely believe they are free.” (von Goethe)
  4. Ron Paul will not be allowed to win. The people who count the votes, write the election laws, and rule on election disputes have already stacked the deck against him.

The really crazy thing is that I think most Paulites already know this. So why do they keep fighting?

Beats me.

I don’t know if they’re wasting their time or not, but I keep hearing Tyler Durden talk about the Titanic. I wish them well. I really do! If Paul is on the ballot, I’ll be voting for him. I just don’t think it will do any good.

Suddenly I feel like cleaning my guns.
