Silva and Vera at UFC Fight Night, 7/19/08

Brandon Vera and Anderson Silva are simply awesome fighters. Silva’s classiness as a winner is completely unmatched, but Vera doesn’t have all that bad of an attitude either. They might come across as arrogant, but the truth is that they are both really that good. Now that Silva has moved up and Vera has moved down to 205 lbs, it would be interesting to see the two in the octagon together. However, Vera is obviously not in peak condition at the lower weight. I don’t think he could handle Silva right now. Maybe after he’s had some time to acclimate?

And while I’m on the UFC…Brandon Markham was the beneficiary of either a brilliant fake-out strategy or else a jaw-droppingly lucky shot.

    Au contraire, my friend.
The guy who kept getting poked in the eye was the classiest guy of the night by far. He should have won by disqualification, but didn’t; the outcome was completely unjust. In spite of all that, he still had kind words for his opponent in the post-fight interview with Rogan. That’s what I call sportsmanship.

The Spider would tear Vera apart like he was tin foil.

Was he the one who kicked the other guy in the head for the KO? If so, then yeah, I didn’t see that one coming, especially after he spent most of the fight getting bullied around the octagon. But it’s that unpredictable aspect of the sport that makes it so interesting.

By the way, do you think Silva’s move to 205 is permanent? I was under the impression that it was just a one-time thing, since he’s still being called the Middleweight Champion. If he moved up a weight class for good, wouldn’t he have to vacate the Middleweight title?

True. I was impressed with him as well.

    I have to agree.

Yep. The other guy lost all caution and then lost the fight.

I don’t know, but I think he would continue to breeze through the 205s like he breezes through the 185s. It makes me wish for the days when there were no weight classes in the UFC at all.

Yeah, that would be cool. Royce Gracie didn’t need no stinkin’ weight classes.
