Although, I wouldn't say that it was their faith <i>in the sacrifice</i> that saved them, but rather their faith in God's grace, the idea is the same. They may very well have believed God's grace was operating through the sacrifices on the altar (and it was in some ways), but Yeshua's blood was the actual mechanism of their eternal salvation. In the end, I don't think it matters if their theology was slightly off. One of the greatest aspects of God's mercy is that we don't have to understand <i>how</i> salvation works in order to have the benefit of it. We only have to believe that it <i>does</i> work.
