Changing My Email Address

Monday, July 5th, 2010

I’ve had the same email address for over ten years, and the SPAM is getting out of hand. My new email addy is now jc2010 at the same domain as before.

Motorola Droid

Friday, April 9th, 2010

Later this month, I’ll finally enter the 21st century and upgrade to a Motorola Droid. With Android 2.1, I understand that it now supports multitouch in the default browser, which was its biggest drawback before. The Verizon rep I talked to couldn’t confirm that, but I don’t think she understood the question. She didn’t know what multitouch was or that gmail was Google.

Confirmed: Latest OS upgrade includes multitouch.

Update April 13, 2010: Changed my mind. I’m going to replace my current phone with another cheapy and put that money into marketing instead. Chamber of Commerce membership has been one of my best investments, so I think I’ll join the chamber in the neighboring county also.

Comment Spammers

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010

The comment spammers are getting smarter. Frequently, their garbage is pertinent to the article on which they have posted, and actually makes sense. However, a quick Google will find the exact same comment on other blogs, and their email and web addresses clearly mark them as advertisers. <DELETE>

Counting Cards

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010

On several occasions someone has told me that they had been reading my blog, but they didn’t show up on sitemeter’s statistics. It might be because of browser settings, ad-blocking software, or some other factor, but I am beginning to suspect that sitemeter is only counting about a third of my visitors. I doubt that another traffic analysis tool would do better.

More Wordpress Woes

Monday, March 1st, 2010

I upgraded to the latest version of Wordpress Saturday night, and it wiped out all the edits I had made to the template I was using. I did a backup before the upgrade, but it only backed up the sql tables. Grrr.

Visitor 10,000

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

Congratulations, Verizon customer from somewhere in the vicinity of Potomac, Maryland, using Firefox on Windows XP and a screen resolution of 1280×1024 who clicked in from voxday.blogspot.com on the night of February 20th! You were my 10,000th visitor. Aren’t you proud?

OK, so 10,000 visitors in who-knows-how-many years isn’t much to brag about in the blogosphere. But, gosh darn it, they’re my visitors! :-P

Google PageRank

Monday, January 18th, 2010

Using SEOBook’s SEO Toolbar, I learned today that I have a higher Google PageRank than the Straightdope, Truthbearer.org, Southern Baptists of Texas Convention, and ReligiousTolerance.org. I’m at the same level as the Assemblies of God, BibleStudy.org, and GotQuestions.org.

Anyone care to exchange links? It might boost your own rating. ;-)

Imported Haloscan Comments

Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

Thanks to Bethyada of True Paradigm and Justin of justinsomnia.org, I was able to import all my Haloscan comments into Wordpress. Thanks, guys!

More Database Woes

Sunday, December 27th, 2009

Somehow in the course of upgrading and then restoring my Wordpress database, the Marriage category was dropped and all of its blog posts were added to the History category. I don’t know if I’ll get around to fixing all of them. Just so you know…

Wordpress Comments

Sunday, December 27th, 2009

The native Wordpress commenting system is back online for now on a trial basis. I asked js-kit to make me pay to keep Haloscan, but they declined. Then I tried to upgrade to Echo, but they said my blog didn’t have Haloscan installed. Whatever. I didn’t like Wordpress’ comment system when I tried it years ago, but maybe it works better now. We’ll see, eh?

(“Eh?” What is that? You Canadians must be rubbing off on me.)

Anyway, I exported my Haloscan comments to an xml file, but I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to import them into another system. Too bad. We had a couple of good conversations over the last couple of months.

If you had an account on this site before, it is still there, but you shouldn’t need an account to post.
