Tonight (or on Saturday night if, like me, you started counting from the first weekly sabbath after Passover) marks approximately 3260 years since the day that God gave his people the Torah on Mt. Sinai and 1985 years since he gave them the Holy Spirit in the upper room in Jerusalem.* Both existed and were available before the event and were given as promises of something more to come. Consider this pattern:
Sequence One
- Passover and death of the firstborn of Egypt
- Exodus and crossing the Red Sea
- Giving of the Torah on Mt. Sinai (Shavuot)
- The unfaithful spies and military defeat
- Wandering in the wilderness
- Entering the Promised Land
Sequence Two
- Passover in Jerusalem and the death of the Firstborn of God
- Feast of Firstfruits and the resurrection of Yeshua
- Giving of the Holy Spirit in the upper room (Shavuot)
- Unbelieving Jewish leadership and the destruction of Jerusalem
- Many centuries of waiting
- Repentance of Israel and the Messianic Kingdom
*And 30 years from the eruption of Mt. Saint Helens.
- The unfaithful spies and military defeat
